This is the 21st Century way of gaining the MCA Officer of the Watch General Ship Knowledge Certificate

OVERVIEW

This course can be studied at home or while working on a vessel at sea "Earn While you Learn" - anywhere in the world

Study in your own time and pace

You will have your own personal tutor who will guide you through the course and mark your assignments.

After successful completion of the theory course you undertake a "mock" exam - taken wherever you are in the world

After passing the mock exam we feed you on to our partner college - The City of Glasgow College, in Scotland, The final MCA (IAMI) exam must be taken at Glasgow

Thus great savings are to be had as you do not have the expense of living away to learn your theory, you save on accomodation and do not have to take time away from work to learn the course.

Also you may do the theory on a vessel at sea, in your spare time and carry on earning

TIMESCALE

The OOW General Ship Knowledge course will take appriximately 40 hours of study at Home or on board Ship.

The course must be completed within a period of 12 months from the date of enrolment.

Stability,

Meteorology

Seamanship.

The route to certification is structured to provide continuing professional development. Those meeting the requirements will be issued with an MCA Certificate of Competence limited to service on yachts and sail training vessels. (Up to 3000gt)


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must hold an RYA/IYT Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore certificate or a RYA Coastal Certificate with relevant sea time

MATERIALS SUPPLIED

Ocean Training Software (Windows or MAC) - Supplied on a USB Stick - this means you have everything up front ready to go

375 + Ocean Training Animations - which enhance the learning - So good even the MCA use them for staff and Coastguard Training

Ocean Training "mock" examination

EXAMINATION

After completion of all the learning Ocean Training will give you a "mock" MCA exam - all included in the course price

The final MCA (IAMI) exam must then be taken at our partner college - The City of Glasgow College in Scotland.

The exam is 2.5 hours and the pass mark is 60%

We advise that for this examination you allow at least one whole day in Glasgow

The exam fee is £150 payable when you are ready for the exam at Glasgow
